FONDATION MÉDÉRIC ALZHEIMER
Created in 1999, the Fondation Médéric Alzheimer is the first foundation recognised as being in the public interest and entirely dedicated to people with Alzheimer's disease or a related illness. It helps sufferers and their families to live better with and despite the disease. It has three main missions:
Toadvance the state of knowledge on the disease and its consequences, by developing research in the human and social sciences, and to contribute to changing the way society looks at it;
Tohelp people live better with the disease and delay the loss of autonomy as much as possible thanks to better support for the person with the disease and their family and friends;
Support professionals and volunteers to improve their practices and make them known.
To address the complexity of Alzheimer's disease, the Foundation is developing a multidisciplinary and international approach that takes into account all areas of the disease: biomedical, medico-social, psycho-social, sociological, legal, economic, etc. It combines scientific expertise with the ability to support or conduct innovative field experiments that generate a positive impact on the support of patients and their families. The Fondation Médéric Alzheimer has supported more than 400 innovative field projects and 120 research projects, including 36 doctoral grants. It provides the public with its national directory of support and care structures for people with Alzheimer's and their carers: www.annuaire-med-alz.org.
