FORTUNY STREET
A long street punctuated by several private mansions of different shapes and styles.
In the residential Plaine Monceau, rue Fortuny (named after a Catalan painter) is an open-air architectural museum. It owes its fortune to the Pereire brothers, in particular, who made this district a holiday resort for the new (and some old) fortunes made during the Second Empire. Stretching for over 200 meters, between Rue de Prony and Avenue de Villiers, it's a string of private mansions in a variety of styles. Many famous personalities lived here: from Edmond Rostand at 2 to Sarah Bernhardt at 37, via Marcel Pagnol at 13.
