If you'd like to discover the joys of a wide range of water sports, the Base Nautique de La Villette is the place for you. Activities take place on the basin between Stalingrad and the Pont de Crimée. State-certified instructors introduce Parisians to a range of water sports. Rowers have a wide choice of boats at their disposal: oars, double canoes and individual kayaks. Cleverly, free introductory courses are offered on Saturday mornings.

To subscribe to that service you have:
- to live in Paris
- to bring an ID and a justificatif de domicile
- to declare that you are able to swing
The guys there are quite lazy and don't give you much help or instructions, so you have to figure out a bit what to do.
Basically on Saturday morning or afternoon, or on Sunday morning, you can go there and take up a kayak, and a life jacket, and stay in the water how long you want. No reservation required.
You could also take a rowing boat, but you have to book it a week in advance.
While you are in the water, you can leave your stuff in a locker, but you have to use your own lock to close it.
Since kayaking is quite a wet experience, there's also a locker room available.
