Fountain designed by Pierre-Simon Girard, featuring a large basin and water-spitting lions in Paris
Standing on a vast esplanade, this fountain served as a drinking trough for animals being led to the Grande Halle de La Villette. Dating from 1811, it originally stood on the Place du Château-d'Eau - today's Place de la République - before the latter was enlarged. It was moved in 1867. Designed by Pierre-Simon Girard, it features a large basin and water-spitting lions. Today, it marks the eastern entrance to the Parc de la Villette.
