ZEN CONCEPT
Author of books on architecture and art of gardens, Bernard Jeannel designs and manufactures houses and gardens inspired by both tradition and modernity, often with a Zen influence, especially in its gardens. When he leaves in Japan to search the wooden houses and ideal cities, Bernard Jeannel remembers the small Japanese garden in pots that he discovered still children in his grandmother's attic. He particularly likes Japanese gardens in the shape of a landscape when spring falls the leaves of the trees like a white or pink petals. They appreciate them in autumn when their foliage is yellow and red, or when their green is intense, in summer and even in winter. He likes waterfalls, foam and also the stones that structure the Zen gardens today very fashionable around the world. The house, both in Japan and in China, is written with two ideograms, the first meaning "house" and the second "garden", which speaks Japanese in Japanese. In order to write the word landscape, the same ideograms are used in these two countries, the first meaning "mountain" and the second "water", which is sansui in Japan. After many trips, in Europe and Asia as a teacher and lecturer, Bernard Jeannel tries to promote the poetic report of the housing and the environment. His books are written to the general public: Build a house, Le Nôtre, Le Ginkgo and Japanese Gardens in France (book of which it prepares a re-establishment). At the same time, he will publish his highly documented book on Japan's Zen Gardens, focusing on revealing their symbolic and poetic aspects hidden in sometimes mysterious forms, thanks to his mastery of Japanese language and his research in China and Korea. In addition, Bernard Jeannel worked for 25 years on the rehabilitation of the «Japanese landscape» in the eastern park of Maulévrier (Maine-et-Loire), work of architect Alexandre Marcel, started in 1900, which was supported by European institutions and three Japanese foundations.
