After years of preparation and a century after the last Olympiad here, the Olympic Games are being held in the capital!
At last! After years of preparation, the world's biggest event is taking place in and around Paris: the Olympic Games, which kick off on Friday July 26, are turning the city into the heart of the world. Millions of spectators and tourists, and billions of television viewers, will be watching the events, which will be held mainly in existing infrastructures, but also in brand-new venues, such as the Olympic aquatic stadium in Saint-Denis (opposite the Stade de France) or the Adidas Arena, located at Porte de la Chapelle, which will host the badminton and rhythmic gymnastics events. In Paris, the other events take place mainly in the west of the city: archery at Les Invalides, fencing and taekwondo at the Grand Palais, tennis at Roland Garros, weightlifting and handball at the Parc des Expositions, and soccer at the Parc des Princes. In the Île-de-France region, the Stade de France is home to athletics, the Vaires-sur-Marne nautical stadium to canoeing and rowing, the Château de Versailles to equestrian sports, and the Villepinte exhibition center to modern pentathlon. And these are just a few examples! For this event, which has been hoped for since 1924 - the date of the last Paris Olympiad - the city and surrounding area are the focus of countless events, concerts and sporting and festive rendezvous. We've only got a few months to wait!
