ST. ROCH'S CHURCH
A superb church with many paintings, sculptures, frescoes and tombs, a monument to discover in Paris.
The foundation stone for this edifice was laid by Louis XIV in 1653, and it took almost a century to complete the work. The building has been fitted with chapels that follow on from the nave and choir. The chapel dedicated to the Virgin, designed by Jules Hardouin Mansart, features a superbly decorated cupola. At the foot of its columned facade and small staircase, street battles between royalists and republican forces took place on October 5, 1795. Leading the latter was one Napoleon Bonaparte.
