PYRAMIDE DU LOUVRE
This pyramid, designed by architect Pei between 1985 and 1989, is the centrepiece of the Grand Louvre.
It is the centrepiece of the Grand Louvre. Designed by François Mitterrand and built by architect Pei, it was inaugurated in March 1989. At the time, the building was a clear improvement, since it was necessary to facilitate public access by creating a new reception hall. With a height of 21.64 m and a base of 35.42 m, the pyramid is made of glass and metal. Three other pyramids act as skylights leading into the main hall. Almost 35 years after its inauguration, its presence is inseparable from the Louvre.
