LE PONT DES ARTS
The Pont des Arts, a romantic symbol for lovers linking the Cour Carrée of the Louvre and the dome of the Académie Française.
The Pont des Arts, a romantic symbol of love, linking the Cour Carrée of the Louvre and the dome of the Académie Française, was built under the First Empire. It was the first metal bridge in Paris. But its nine arches caused a lot of trouble for the boatmen. Accidents were so numerous that it was closed to the public in 1970, and not rebuilt until the 1980s. It was on this bridge that singer Aya Nakamura and the Garde Républicaine gave a unique performance at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games!
