THE ROYAL BRIDGE

The Pont Royal, linking the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries to the Rue du Bac and the Musée d'Orsay.
Originally, a ferry operated on the very site of the bridge. It was during a walk that Louis XIII, who had witnessed an accident, decided it was essential to build a permanent footbridge. Construction, as we know it today, was completed in 1689 at the request of Louis XIV. The stone bridge, entirely financed by the King, was renamed the Pont Royal. Harmoniously linking the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens to the Musée d'Orsay, this pretty 110-metre arched bridge is surprisingly soberly decorated.
