THE COLBERT FOUNTAIN
Discreet fountain in Paris, designed in 1708 by architect Jean Beausire
Architect Jean Beausire designed the Colbert Fountain in 1708. At the time, the monument was privately owned and used to supply water to the hotel at number 18 rue Vivienne. But in 1713, the fountain was ceded to the city. Since then, the fountain has been completely renovated, bringing out all its superb details. The beautiful mascaron with a man's head through which the water flowed is still there, as is the triangular pediment bearing the coat of arms of Paris. The work is well worth a look, and is listed as a Monument Historique.
