THE GAILLON FOUNTAIN
Fountain dated 1828, designed by Louis Visconti and sculpted by Georges Jacquot in Paris
The Gaillon fountain stands at the foot of a mansion housing a restaurant once owned by Gérard Depardieu. Dated 1828, it was designed by Louis Visconti and sculpted by Georges Jacquot. A charming feature of the district, it replaced an earlier fountain, erected in 1707 by Jean Beausire. Its base features a small figure armed with a trident and riding a dolphin. The work faces another table well known to lovers of literature: the Drouant. This is where the Prix Goncourt is awarded.
