PASSAGE DU CAIRE
The Passage du Caire, one of Paris's passages divided into three galleries, now devoted to the wholesale textile trade.
The Passage du Caire is the oldest, longest and narrowest passageway in the capital. Opened in 1798, it owes its name to Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt that same year. The passage is divided into three galleries, today devoted to the wholesale textile trade typical of the Sentier district. The façade on Place du Caire is especially worth a visit: it is adorned with three effigies of Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love, joy, music and dance... What a program!
