MUSÉE DE LA CHASSE ET DE LA NATURE (MUSEUM OF HUNTING AND NATURE)
Museum featuring works by Corot, Chardin and Desportes.
Collections are displayed in the rooms of Mongelas hotel (eighteenth century) and those of the adjoining Guenegaud hotel (built by François Mansart in the middle of the seventeenth century). They are organized according to two themes: the first one, "The image of the animal" offers a course presenting the changing status of the wild animal from ancient times to present day. Several rooms are devoted to an emblematic animal (wild boar, dog, wolf...) and to its representation in the form of paintings, sculptures, tapestries and ceramics - works by Cranach, Derain, Jan Fabre, Koons... You can also see trophies. The second theme, "Art and hunting" has weapons and works devoted to hunting. You can especially admire works by Corot, Chardin and Desportes.
Renovation work in progress! Since July 2019, the museum has been closed for 14 months of renovation and expansion work.
