THIERCELIN 1809
Since 1809, the Thiercelin family has been defending saffron culture through war and history. For seven generations, the House has been preparing saffron powder on site and perpetuating its unique know-how. Thiercelin 1809 received the distinction Entreprise du patrimoine vivant. Some of its organic products such as saffron, pepper, turmeric, bulgur, green cardamom, various types of quinoa, etc. are distinguished by the organic labels of France and the European Union.
History. It all began in 1809 in Pithiviers, not far from Orléans, with Jean Thiercelin, cooper and vintner-vinegarer. He buys an old perimeter tower, called the Porte d'Orléans. It is here that it supports local products: sainfoin honeys (Deux Pigeons honey), wines, gingerbread, Pithiviers de Pannes (Bondaroy) - cheese matured in hay - pastry of the same name, brighten up the local bon-vivre. Jean and his sons guide the vinegar maker's activity as a grocery vinegar maker, to devote themselves fully to crushing the saffron, which they buy mainly in Spain. In 1869, Lucien Thiercelin developed the international marketing of saffron and created the first control laboratory in 1901. In 1906, he took over Maison Brière as its agents travelled all over the world to ensure its exports. Jean, his son, succeeded him in 1921 and embodied a new era by becoming a privileged supplier of pharmacopoeia and perfumery, with a thousand plants and vanilla as a reference. In 1940, after a few difficult years, the family left Pithiviers for Yèvre-le-Châtel after having sold their activities related to seaweed, honey and vanilla. In 1976, Jean M. Thiercelin (6th generation) and his wife, Enriqueta, took over the company's activity under the name Tradimpex Jm Thiercelin, at the Rungis (Val-de-Marne) site. In 1982, they transferred their activity to Champigny-sur-Marne, then moved to new premises in La Queue-en-Brie in 1985. In 2006, the 7th generation invested in larger premises in Combs-la-Ville in Seine-et-Marne.
