Closed since 2018, it reopened in September 2023: the Théâtre de la Ville, now known as the Théâtre de la Ville - Sarah Bernhardt, now boasts state-of-the-art cultural facilities. Inside, the theatre's seating capacity has been maintained at 950, and the same cream-coloured seats have been reinstalled as during the last major restructuring in 1968. The programming is intended to be "popular".

Ce theatre fut un haut lieu de l avant-garde pour la danse contemporaine. Abonné depuis des années la programmation est devenue trop élitiste , et mis à part Pina Bausch, les grands chorégraphes ou l avant garde délaisse peut à peu ce theatre.
