The moving memorial to the deportation, a place of remembrance for the victims of the concentration camps.

Inaugurated in 1962, this moving memorial designed by the architect Georges-Henri Pingusson pays tribute to men, women and children deported from France in the Nazis concentration camps during the Second World War. Consisting of a crypt and galleries, it houses the remains of an unknown deportee, a well as urns containing soil from the camps and ashes taken crematoria.

Small yet quite powerful, somber, impactful memorial. Definitely worth a visit. In addition, centrally located and access is free.

Un'architettura che ferma il tempo e permette di riflettere sul tempo che fu.

A somber place to visit, but I am so glad we took the time and opportunity to add this into our schedule. As someone from the US, to see a memorial for those sent to the camps was heart-wrenching. I am glad there is a memorial dedicated to their lives. Its free and not very large, but if you take the time to read through the exhibits which are in a few languages, it's worth spending a bit of time here.
