HALF-TIMBERED HOUSE FROM THE 16TH CENTURY
Built around 1540, this half-timbered house is one of the few that you can admire in Paris. Its atypical physionomie reflects the architectural needs of medieval Paris. The bulge of the floors on the street allowed a significant gain in space while outside, this advance of the house on the street protected the passers-by of the rain. The ground floor of these houses was generally devoted to trade. This was not the case, however, since it was built for the use of the Cross Girls of the Cross, a religious institution whose members were responsible for religious education of girls. In 1790 the pious organization was dissolved and the building returned to the state which sold it 16 vendémiaire of the year IV. Later acquired and restored, still by the state, this house houses the International Youth and Students House (MIJE) and offers overnight stays at unbeatable prices.
