Gothic tower with a bell tower dating from the century, located in Paris.
The sight of this Gothic tower in the middle of a square may come as a surprise! Although this eponymous square is the first in Paris, laid out under the Second Empire, the tower is actually a vestige of the Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie church, demolished in 1793 during the Revolution. The steeple dates back to the 16th century, but the statues adorning its top actually date from the early 20th century. They symbolise evangelical symbols (the Angel, the Lion, the Ox, the Eagle) and St. James the Greater, to whom the church was dedicated. The view from the top is magnificent.
