THE TURRET BRIDGE
A bridge built in the century in Paris, made of reinforced concrete and covered with ashlar.
The Pont de la Tournelle as we know it today was erected on the very site where a wooden, then stone, bridge had been built in the 17th century. The present-day result dates from 1928 and links the Île Saint-Louis and the Latin Quarter. Its name evokes the past existence of a square turret that formed part of Philippe-Auguste's medieval enclosure. The bridge itself is made of reinforced concrete and faced with ashlar. The structure has a large central arch and two smaller arches linking the riverbanks.
