LA RÔTISSERIE D'ARGENT
Establishment in Paris elaborating a refined cuisine, a menu of poultry, meats and roasted pigeon.
A new name and a new face! The establishment claims its affiliation with the Argent Tower, the name and the spirit of the place. Everything has been rethought. We are in the pure spirit of the old Parisian brewery. Tables are covered with cloth sheets, the servers equipped with butterfly nodes and the service is done on the old. The hotel looks forward to participating in the reputation of the "Argent" house by offering its guests refined cuisine. The menu has been designed to satisfy lovers of good poultry and tradition. In the plates we find: Purple mustard rogue, roasted pigeon, herb lamb shoulder shoulder of herb milk…

1. There was no itemized bill. The manager simply approached us with a card reader and pointed it at us with the total amount.
2. The bill seemed high, but I didn't question it.
3. The manager asked if we wanted to leave a tip and suggested 20%. That triggered a soft alarm in my head, given standard French practices regarding service charges, but I didn't protest.
4. I didn't realize it until later, but he actually charged us 30%.
Thinking about it later, I am certain that the bill already included the service charge, but because we were not given an itemized bill I had no way to check.
I also suspect that not everyone is approached for a 20% tip, and if it was on top of the standard service charge, that is an especially serious problem. Finally, the manager adding 30% to the bill might have been an honest mistake, but the bill presentation left me feeling that we had been "touristed." I wrote to management, but have not received a response, let alone an explanation or apology.
If you go, be on your guard. Ask to see the bill before you pay, and politely decline any attempt to solicit an extra tip over and above the standard service charge. I was a sucker, but you don't have to be.
