Authentic bistro in Mouffetard with a comforting atmosphere, homemade cuisine, and low prices.

If you are in the neighbourhood, come to lunch, dinner or drink a pot at the Papillon, the most authentic address of Mouffetard. A bistro like one of them with tiles, which serves us with joy and good taste, a housewife's kitchen, small wines that go well, a comfortable atmosphere and one of the lowest prices in Paris. To begin with, we share a plate of cheese and cold meats, and if hunger strikes, one can enjoy a veal chop with candied lemons and olives, a beef tartare or a fisherman's plate (cuttlefish, shrimp, smoked salmon, mackerel and raw salmon).

A éviter.

Is this place really Japanese? I doubt it. I had the vegetarian curry and the matcha tiramisu. I thought everything was good but average. The curry was a bit dry, and lacked some aroma. More veggies, more sauce, bigger plates would have been good. My umeshu (plum wine) was served in a mini glass… i was expecting the izakaya experience with a bigger glass, or a ceramic cup, ice, and just more quantity for the price. Also, I had more flavorful green tea tiramisu at other restaurants. The cooks are not Japanese but from India. The waitresses were two very young students that did not really know what they were doing. Overall I was disappointed to go to an “authentic” Japanese restaurant and not be in contact with any Japanese people and not feel any Japanese vibe.
