SQUARE VIVIANI
A square featuring a Robinia, a North American tree named after a botanist and arborist.
While this historic district abounds in monuments that have seen history unfold at their feet, few know that, peacefully installed facing the Seine, this planted quadricentennial silently watches the City of Light change over the centuries. Square Viviani is home to the oldest identified and dated tree in Paris. Planted in 1601, it is a Robinia from North America, a species named after the man who introduced it to France: Jean Robin, botanist and arborist to the king, director of the Jardin des Apothicaires.
