Fountain built in 1860, occupying the entire facade of a building in Paris

Inaugurated in 1860 when Baron Haussmann was transforming Paris, the Saint-Michel fountain (26 meters high and 15 meters wide) is the work of Gabriel Davioud. It was built to conceal the gable wall at the corner of Boulevard Saint-Michel, Place Saint-André-des-Arts and Rue Danton. At its center, a statue by Francisque Duret depicting Saint Michel slaying the dragon, or the struggle of good against evil; above it, four bronzes (Force, Temperance, Justice and Prudence) and at its feet, two dragons from which water spouts.

Superbe, grandiloquente, mais mal située, dans le brouhaha d'un carrefour important tant pour les véhicules que pour les piétons ! Difficile de la contempler à tête reposée !
