THE SAINT-SULPICE FOUNTAIN
Building designed by Louis Visconti in Paris, also known as the Fountain of the Cardinal Points.
Designed by Louis Visconti, the Saint-Sulpice fountain has been enthroned on the forecourt of the eponymous church since 1848. The statues in the four niches represent bishops who were great orators under Louis XIV: Fénelon, Bossuet, Fléchier and Massillon. Each is the work of a different sculptor. The fountain is also known as the "Fountain of the Cardinal Points", as the four bishops it honors were never named cardinals. Listed as a historic monument since 1926.
