PLACE SAINT SULPICE
A year-round venue for trade fairs and exhibitions, but it wasn't built the way the construction manager wanted.
Did Giovanni Servandoni have a folie de grandeur when he designed the square? He was also architect of the Saint-Sulpice church, and in any case, he wanted it to be very large. Unfortunately for him, his demands were not met, as the square "only" measured 105 m by 80 m. The architect - who was also a painter and decorator - had imagined a project of staggered buildings, of which only no. 6, at the corner of rue des Cannettes, has survived as a model. The square is a regular venue for antique and bibliophile fairs.
