AVIROTTE BUILDING
An anti-academic building with a style that doesn't appeal to everyone, since it features Art Nouveau facades and decoration
From the early 1890s to 1905-10, a completely new and exuberant style developed in Paris, Brussels and Nancy. This vibrant artistic movement loved nature and wanted to see it everywhere. It appealed to the most avant-garde, who had buildings constructed in the style known as Art Nouveau. These included the Castel Béranger, in the 16th arrondissement, and the Lavirotte building (named after the architect), built in 1900 for ceramist Alexandre Bigot.
