THE BRIDGE FOR THE DISABLED
Bridge built between 1854 and 1856 in Paris, with a central pier added to ensure the structure's strength.
The Pont des Invalides, erected between 1854 and 1856, rests on the piers of a first bridge built in 1829. During construction, a central pier was added to ensure the structure's solidity. The pier is decorated with allegorical sculptures: "La victoire terrestre" by Victor Vilain (upstream) and "La victoire navale" by Georges Diebolt (downstream), who also created the famous Zouave on the Pont de l'Alma. Note that while its name evokes the Hôtel des Invalides, it's its neighbour, the Pont Alexandre-III, opposite the Musée de l'Armée.
