An opportunity to visit the Rodin Museum, with exhibitions on Rodin's work and regular themes

The Musée Rodin is housed in a classic but superb 18th-century mansion - the Hôtel Biron. Discovered in 1908 by the artist himself, this splendid Rocaille-style structure was then in an advanced state of neglect. Auguste Rodin first rented the first floor, before occupying the entire building from 1911 onwards. The hotel became a museum in 1919, after the sculptor bequeathed his possessions and works to the French state, which in return acquired the site.

It's truly the ideal setting, with light flooding in easily, and rooms large and numerous enough to accommodate Auguste Rodin's works and collections. Le Baiser (The Kiss), La Toilette de Vénus (The Toilet of Venus ) and La Danaïde (The Danaïde ) are all fascinating creations whose power you can't help but admire. As the visit progresses, we discover (and learn) about the evolution of sculpture techniques: sketching, casting, then working on marble or bronze. At the same time, the museum pays tribute to the artists who worked with or inspired Rodin. It houses works by Camille Claudel, as well as paintings by Monet, Van Gogh and others.

The beautiful garden comprises several areas, including the rose garden. The Porte de l'Enfer, the Monument aux Bourgeois de Calais, the Monument à Balzac and Orphée, to name but a few, can all be admired in this unique setting. On Sunday mornings, the museum organizes guided tours for the whole family, and has a charming café-restaurant mischievously named "L'Augustine".
