Restaurant near the Champs-Élysées offering gastronomic cuisine with a world-food touch.

Gently tucked in a counter from the bottom of the Champs-Elysées, the Laurent is what needs to be named an institution, a regular meeting place of many personalities of ACC 40, senators, ministers and other journalists. A place of power, where one comes to show itself, see and be seen. Spider of Sea in its jelly juices, fennel cream and then pearl turbot to olive oil, bards and green vegetables in a fleurette the, finally mango and rice rice as a maki, spéculoos with ginger: mâtinée here or there a subtle world-food touch, the gastronomy proposed by Alain Pégouret, formed by Joël Robuchon and Christian Constant, is greedy while remaining in the bourgeois and consensual ensemble. The room is headed by Philippe Bourguignon, who arrived at Laurent in 1977 and best sommelier of France in 1978.

the food (frog legs as my starter and duck breast as my main) and the ambience were amazing!

Enclosed in a beautiful garden you’ll find a historic parisian masterpiece of a building in marble and limestone. Apparently, this building used to be a government lunch haven for french officials - very out of style with the current era of transparancy of public spending. Nowadays, you’ll find Laurent here instead, a classical french restaurant deserving of its beautiful surroundings.

I have visited twice and both occations have produced solud gastronomy. Dishes generally show great mastery of classical techniques, quality ingredients and tasteful presentation. Of course, classical party tricks like tableside flambéing of the cote de boeuf is appreciated as well. My reservation for the full 5* on food is however the absence of a set menu. While the preference for one over pure ala carte may be mine alone, they tend toward expected at this level.

As a sidenote tip, Laurent has a cozy library bar before you enter the restaurant. It’s a nice place, I’d recommend coming a bit early and having a drink.
