Built between 1718 and 1722 for the Count of Evreux, this hotel had over the time of occupants such as the Marchioness de Pompadour, the financier Nicolas Beaujon, the Duchess of Bourbon, the Prince of Empire Joaquim Murat, Napoleon I… Intermittently, it was also a temporary residence for ambassadors and other foreign hosts. It was 1848, in the Second Republic, that the Elysée Palace was allocated to the housing of the President of the Republic. For a short time since Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte became a emperor in the Tuileries palace. During his reign, he carries out major works that profoundly alter the Elysée and give him the most of his current appearance. It was from 1874 that the Presidents settled definitively here.
