THE ALMA BRIDGE
Built from 1970 to 1974, this metallic work replaced a stone bridge dating from the Second Empire. Four statues of soldiers adorned the batteries of the latter: a zouave, a grenadier, a walking hunter and a gunner. Only the zouave, the work of Georges Diebolt, was retained on the new building because of its state of service. For a century it had made it possible to monitor the Seine level: if he had his feet in the water, it was wrong! Famous photos the watch immergé up to the shoulders during the catastrophic catastrophic 1910. Today, the hunter is at the Gravelle Redoubt in the Bois de Vincennes, the Grenadier in Dijon and the gunner at La Fère in the Aisne. Note that Alma is the name of a battle lost in 1854 by French, English and Ottoman forces against Russians during the Crimean War. The flame, a monument offered to France by the Americans, which is a replica of the torch of the statue statue, overlooks the west tunnel of the famous bridge. Today, the bridge of the Alma, like the Flame of Liberty, is often associated with the tunnel, in which Princess Lady Di died in August 1997. But also the bridge of the Alma, frequented by many tourists since the disappearance of Princess Diana in 1997.
