THE BRIDGE OF CONCORD
Bridge built during the French Revolution, decorated with statues of First Empire generals in Paris.
Construction of the bridge began in 1788 and continued throughout the French Revolution. Stones from the Bastille fortress, quickly demolished after 14th July 1789, were used to build it! Completed in 1791, it is decorated with statues of First Empire generals, replaced by other statues under Louis XVIII. Representing ministers, military leaders, and sailors of the Ancien Régime, these proved too heavy and were moved to the Galerie Historique at the Château de Versailles.
