Built in 1861 on the terrasse des Feuillants, to host games of jeu de paume
Inaugurated in 1862, the Jeu de Paume was originally a venue for this racket sport, the forerunner of tennis. It was rebuilt to harmonise its architecture with that of the neighbouring Orangerie. In the early 20th century, it became an art gallery. Once the museum of the Impressionists, the Jeu de Paume is the result of the merger of the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, the Centre national de la photographie and the Patrimoine photographique. Today, it is an exhibition space dedicated to photography and video.
