One of the most elegant parks in Paris, created by the painter Louis Carmontelle in 1778.
Considered one of the most elegant in Paris, this park was created by painter Louis Carmontelle in 1778 to embellish a folly of the Duc de Chartres. The site is dotted with grottoes, rivers, and astonishing constructions: an Egyptian pyramid, the ruins of an ancient temple... Later, a rotunda designed by Ledoux was built on the edge of the park to house the octroi services of a barrier forming part of the Fermiers généraux wall. Under the Second Empire, a number of private mansions were built, and a large part of the park became a public garden.
