PLACE CHARLES DE GAULLE

The Place Charles de Gaulle, one of the biggest nightmares for motorists in Paris, took its name at the death of the former President of the Republic in 1970. However, it is commonly being called Place de l'Etoile. The Arc de Triomphe still dominates in the centre and the twelve major avenues, mainly bearing the names of generals and military victories, continue to come out... As well as the Champs-Elysees, of course! It derived its actual appearance from the Second Empire, according to the plans of the architect Jacques Hittorff. It was at this time that this circular square (240 m diameter) was surrounded by mansions, some of which have gardens that can be seen through the bars of their gates and make dream many rich and powerful people.
