THE PLACE OF THE PILLORY
The Place du Pilori is part of the historic center and today houses a statue of a flute player by Michel Lévy.
In the Middle Ages, the condemned were tied up in this square. The pillory used, which could take the form of a simple wooden post, a stone column or a more advanced carcan, was not used to put to death but rather to infame and humiliate a person in front of the population. Today, a beautiful sculpture stands in its place. At the back of this one, we notice a house on which we see a doctor's plate. It was once a hôtel-Dieu, a hospice where the sick and needy were welcomed.
