SAINT-SÉVÈRE CHURCH
Church with a very rare decoration called "funerary liter" on the nave and the side aisles, located on the site of a Gallo-Roman temple.
Probably built in the 11th century, on the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple, this recently restored church is one of the oldest in the French Gâtinais region. Dedicated to Saint Sévère, patron saint of weavers, and Saint Avoie, virgin and martyr, it is characterized by its "funerary liter", a painted decoration on the walls of the nave and side aisles. It is said to represent the mourning coat of arms of Henriette de Beringhen. The organ is said to come from a salon organ played by Camille Saint-Saëns.
