THE CELLAR OF THE TEMPLARS
Visit the Château-Landon Templar cellar, supported by a central pillar.
The Knights Templar had a strong presence in the region. In 1278, a certain Adam de Laleu bequeathed them a house on rue Saint-Pèlerin, now rue de la République. This building houses an unusual 13th-century cellar. Its vault is supported by a central pillar, as in the Moustier crypt in Milly-la-Forêt. The story goes that this hidden space was a crossroads of underground galleries and served as a place of worship, hence its name Chapelle des Templiers.
