FORMER ROYAL ABBEY OF SAINT-SÉVERIN
Royal Abbey of Saint-Séverin, with a chapel ending in a polygonal chevet, restored and transformed into a retirement home
This abbey was built in honor of Séverin d'Agaune, Clovis' saintly healer. Clovis suffered from a fever and recovered his health after Séverin wrapped him in his cloak while praying. On the saint's death, Childebert, son of Clovis, built a church over his grave, a place of worship from which the abbey grew. Destroyed by invasions and the French Revolution, the church and abbey underwent a series of restorations. Unfortunately, these superb monuments can only be admired from the outside.
