ABBAYE ROYALE NOTRE-DAME-DU-LYS
A ruined Cistercian abbey set in a large park, a site steeped in history and a fine architectural ensemble to visit.
Now in ruins, but still visible and preserved within a large park, this abbey was founded by Saint Louis and his mother, Blanche de Castille, in 1244, a prosperous period for the Cîteaux order, with the creation of numerous monasteries. The abbey was home to many famous personalities: abbess Claire-Cécile Colbert, sister of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marie Mancini, niece of Cardinal Mazarin and first love of Louis XIV... A beautiful architectural ensemble not to be missed.
