THE CASTLE
This Renaissance-style château is now privately owned
Built in 1150, the château was badly damaged during the Hundred Years' War, and was renovated several times before being sold in 1815. Threatened with dismantling, it was saved by the painter Etienne Berne Bellecour. In 1899, Jules Massenet made it his summer residence. The château is part of a magnificent architectural ensemble, including the 13th-century church of Saint-Martin and halle, believed to date back to the 15th century , where the annual poultry fair is now held.
Only open during the Douve Blanche festival in July.
