THE BURGUNDY DOOR
A fortified monument in Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, the Porte de Bourgogne houses an exhibition on fortifications
It is one of the two fortified doors present at each end of the main street. A fortified monument, with its two side walls framing the portcullis, it dates from the 12th century. With three floors, it houses an exhibition on the fortifications while the top floor offers an exceptional view of Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne. To see, its superb wooden frame. Formerly a prison, the monument contains a small wooden cage from the 16th century, reminiscent of the "girls" used by Louis XI to subdue his enemies.
