The only tangible trace of the walls that once encircled the town of Fontenay-Trésigny
It was also called the Porte d'En-Bas. The Porte de Rozay is the only tangible trace of the walls which surrounded the town in the past (16th century). On several occasions, in 1854, 1870 and 1906, the prefectural administration and the Historic Monuments Committee opposed the municipality's intention to demolish this testimony of the past. Its roof was renovated in 1835 and in 1985. At the top of the arch, an inscription is visible (readable with binoculars) which indicates that begging is forbidden here...
