MEROVINGIAN CRYPT OF SAINT PAUL
Aristocratic crypts at Jouarre, preserved Merovingian epitaphs and motifs.
In the 18th century, a chapel was built above this exceptional burial site. Until the 7th century, there was probably an important funerary complex containing the tombs of monks and nuns. In addition to the tombs, the crypts of Saint Paul and Saint Ebregésile contain superb 7thcentury capitals in white marble from the Pyrenees. Finally, the sarcophagus of Saint Agilbert is decorated with a magnificent tetramorph. A real jewel of the heritage not to be missed!
