CHÂTEAU DES DAMES
Remarkable building, a former fortified farmhouse, housing a media library and featuring a pleasant garden open to all.
Château des Dames owes its name to the nuns of the Saint-Louis de Poissy royal abbey, who owned the Châtelet estate from the 14th century until the French Revolution. Probably built on the site of an ancient fortress(castellum), on the route of a Roman road linking Montereau to Melun, this edifice was actually a fortified farm. As for its fairytale castle appearance, it owes this to its 19th-century renovation, undertaken in a spirit of renewal à la Viollet-le-Duc. Today, it houses a media library. The park is open to the public.
