SAINT-MÉDARD CHURCH
Gothic church in Lizy-sur-Ourcq, with a 32 m high slate bell tower and three bells
Saint-Médard was built in the 16th century in Gothic style, using Varreddes limestone. The church has a 32 m-high slate bell tower housing three bells, one of which, dating from 1743, weighs 1,200 kg. Its stained-glass windows, rebuilt in the 19th century, were restored in 1996. On the sacristy walls, two magnificent canvases depict a 17th-century Christ on the Cross and a 19th-century Saint Sebastian. The Resurrection, by Edouard Pinel, is a 19th-century copy. The original is in the Salpêtrière chapel in Paris.
