THE BISHOP'S PALACE
The former Palais des Evêques, now the Musée Bossuet, houses rich collections of paintings, archaeology and history
Built in the 12th century, the episcopal palace only took on its current appearance in the 16th and 17th centuries. During the French Revolution, the palace was stripped of its furnishings, turned into a prison and then into a repository for objets d'art. From 1800 to 1825, it became the bishop's residence and sub-prefecture. Purchased by the city in 1905, it has housed the Musée Bossuet since 1927. The Fine Arts collections are on display on the second floor, while the lower halls are used for temporary exhibitions. In addition to the palace's architecture and collections, don't miss the French garden.
