NOTRE-DAME COLLEGIATE CHURCH
The collegiate church of Notre-Dame, a millennium of history, restoration and artistic praise.
It was at the beginning of the 11th century that King Robert the Pious founded the collegiate church of Notre-Dame to establish a community of canons. This building was selected by Prosper Mérimée (then Inspector General of Historic Monuments) in 1840 to be one of the thousand or so monuments that needed to be restored. Auguste Rodin dedicated a text to it in Les Cathédrales de France, which described the portal of the collegiate church as "infinitely graceful". In 2013, the city of Melun has chosen to celebrate the millennium of its collegiate church Notre-Dame.
