ST. APAIS CHURCH
Church of flamboyant Gothic style, located in Melun, dedicated to Saint Aspais, and classified as a historical monument
Built from 1515 to 1555 on the plans of the architect Jehan de Félin, its construction is in the flamboyant Gothic style. Dedicated to Saint Aspais, the first apostle of Melun who lived at the end of the5th century or the beginning of the 6th century, it has known various fortunes. Burned and plundered, it became the temple of the goddess Reason during the Revolution. Bombed in August 1944, the spire of the bell tower was destroyed and the fire melted the bells. The church was restored during many years and it is classified as a historical monument since February 21, 1914.
